Nowadays, machine learning techniques (e.g. support vector machine (SVM), decision tree, random forest, etc.) and deep learning techniques (e.g. convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), long-short term memory (LSTM), etc.) have been popularly applied into various domains such as image recognition and knowledge integration in Semantic Web (SW). Moreover, developments in sciences and engineering are characterized by a growing complexity, which is balanced by an extensive utilization of computational resources. This complexity is not only a feature of sciences and engineering problems, but also is a primary attribute of the respective algorithms for analysis, control and decision-making to develop those sciences and engineering solutions. When coping with complexity in this broad spectrum of demands, optimization techniques have attracted much attention and maintained good development momentum in both theoretical and practical studies when facing complex optimization problems.

Scope and Topics

The aim of this special session is to provide the last and most innovative research on various disciplines of applications, particularly machine learning and optimization techniques for semantic web, agricultural sciences, biology and biochemistry, chemistry, clinical medicine, economics and business, engineering, environment and ecology, geosciences, immunology, materials sciences, microbiology, molecular biology and genetics, neurosciences and behavior, pharmacology and toxicology, physics, plant and animal sciences, psychiatry and psychology, social sciences, and space sciences.
